I am a visual artist working primarily with the medium of clay. I also do illustration for children’s books. I hold a BA in Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics (Major in Ceramics and minor in Visual Research) from Brighton University, UK and an MA in Ceramics from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, UK (today Cardiff Metropolitan University). I have participated in group exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad, completed an artist residency at the International Ceramic Research Centre Guldagergaard, Skælskør, Denmark and collaborated as an animator for a children’s music video. I have also taught ceramics and art to various age groups. The first children’s book I illustrated, titled 'My grandfather comes from… Kythrea' (written by Chrysothemis Papaconstantinou), was awarded the State Prize for Literature for Young Children for publications of the year 2021. It was also selected by the Cyprus IBBY to represent Cyprus in the IBBY Honour List 2024 in the Illustration category. My second illustrated children’s book, 'Ollie and the Rescue of the Hummingbird', written by Melina Karekla, was published in July 2024. Central to my ceramics work is the exploration of the ambiguity of the human condition. Seemingly contrasting notions such as familiarity/unfamiliarity, presence/absence, internal/ external, as well as themes of memory, loss, identity, the self and fragmentation, are investigated through the making of objects that hold visual narratives and 'tell' their own stories. My work is essentially an attempt to express the experiencing of such states of being that often overlap and merge into one another.
